چکیده

Movement disorders prevent many people from enjoying their daily lives. As with other diseases, diagnosis and analysis are key issues in treating such disorders. Computer vision-based motion capture systems are helpful tools for accomplishing this task. However Classical motion tracking systems suffer from several limitations. First they are not cost effective. Second these systems cannot detect minute motions accurately. Finally they are spatially limited to the lab environment where the system is installed. In this project, we propose an innovative solution to solve the abovementioned issues. Mounting the camera on human body, we build a convenient, low cost motion capture system that can be used by the patient in daily-life activities. We refer to this system as active motion capture, which is not confined to the lab environment. Real-time experiments in our lab revealed the robustness and accuracy of the system.

Hand Gesture Recognition from RGB-D Data using 2D and 3D Convolutional Neural Networks: a comparative study

Despite considerable enhances in recognizing hand gestures from still images, there are still many challenges in the classification of hand gestures in videos. The latter comes with more challenges, including higher computational complexity and arduous task of representing temporal features. Hand movement dynamics, represented by temporal features, have to be extracted by analyzing the total fr...

On the temporal domain of co-speech gestures: syllable, phrase or talk spurt?

This study explores the use of automatic methods to detect and extract hand gesture movement co-occuring with speech. Two spontaneous dyadic dialogues were analyzed using 3D motion-capture techniques to track hand movement. Automatic speech/non-speech detection was performed on the dialogues resulting in a series of connected talk spurts for each speaker. Temporal synchrony of onset and offset ...

A basic gesture and motion format for virtual reality multisensory applications

The question of encoding movements such as those produced by human gestures may become central in the coming years, given the growing importance of movement data exchanges between heterogeneous systems and applications (musical applications, 3D motion control, virtual reality interaction, etc.). For the past 20 years, various formats have been proposed for encoding movement, especially gestures...

Stereotypical Motor Movement Recognition Using Microsoft Kinect with Artificial Neural Network

Autism spectrum disorder is a complex developmental disability. It is defined by a certain set of behaviors. Persons with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) frequently engage in stereotyped and repetitive motor movements. The objective of this article is to propose a method to automatically detect this unusual behavior. Our study provides a clinical tool which facilitates for doctors the diagnosis...

Human Computer Interaction Using Vision-Based Hand Gesture Recognition

With the rapid emergence of 3D applications and virtual environments in computer systems; the need for a new type of interaction device arises. This is because the traditional devices such as mouse, keyboard, and joystick become inefficient and cumbersome within these virtual environments. In other words, evolution of user interfaces shapes the change in the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). In...
